San Diego Quick Reading Assessment

Directions
Show your learner the lists of words (on page two). Show them one list at a time starting with 2 or 3 lists below their grade level. Ask them to read the words if they can. On the first listing, mark a check for every word they pronounce correctly without your help. If they correct themselves after about 5 seconds or less, score it as correct. If they pause for longer than about 8 seconds before reading the word, say, “Please
try the next one.” Stop the test when he misses 3 words in a particular list. You can then try the list on the next level down. The reading level is the highest “independent” level (1 or fewer mistakes).
