Fall Musical

VILLAGE HOME PRESENTS

Willy Wonka Jr. 2019

INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW IN ADVANCE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING IN THE MUSICAL PRODUCTION AT VH IN 2018:

Rehearsals: All rehearsals will be held Mondays at the Village Home Beaverton Campus in the Sousa (the Lounge) and additional rooms until the final week of rehearsals when we’ll transfer rehearsals to our performance site, Sherwood Center for the Performing Arts in Sherwood, OR. We will be meeting for rehearsals and the final performances during Winter Break. (Check the “Important Dates” section below for specific dates and times.)

Participation: Everyone enrolled in the fall musical will be given a part. You do not have to sing a solo if you do not wish to, though it’s encouraged that every participant have at least one line of solo or small group singing and/or dialog when possible. But you DO have to sing as an ensemble regardless of your part. We need as many voices as possible to fill our performance space and to help the story come to life!

Absences: All Cast Members are required to attend all rehearsals for the entire duration during the Workshop/Tech Week unless otherwise previously arranged with the director.

If you are unable to attend rehearsal at any time (not just Workshop/Tech Week) or there is an emergency, please let the Director know at the earliest convenience at 618-201-3616 or via email at whitney.johnson@villagehome.org

It takes every. single. person. to make a show a success in terms of both the final product and the overall experience. Make no mistake, no matter what your part, you are both wanted and needed here. The sooner we know about absences the better able we are to make sure that your child doesn’t miss something critical to the production and that the cast and crew’s time are used as efficiently as possible. While I won’t ever make attendance “mandatory,” the caliber of your participation is noticed and felt in this ensemble, and like getting that promotion at work, it will be taken into consideration for future casting.

Casting: Our Casting Sessions are in lieu of a formal “audition,” as auditions can often be intimidating for young performers. During this time together, we will get to know each other, play games and do exercises aimed at getting us loosened up and comfortable in a performance environment. All singing will be done in small groups (facing the director and not the audience) and you will not have to sing by yourself. You don’t have to prepare anything ahead of time and casting will be based primarily on what is seen and heard during these sessions. The Cast List will be posted (this year via the SLACK app!) by the Saturday after our last casting session, on Saturday, October 5th by midnight.

Costuming: Cast are asked to provide solid color pants (black, brown, khaki, no jeans) or shorts and footwear. Fun, funky tennis shoes or “Chuck Taylors” are GREAT! We will provide solid colorful t-shirts and other additional costume pieces. Some principal roles may be asked to secure certain items and/or footwear depending on the needs of the role. This will be discussed with families ahead of time and of course reimbursement is available upon request. Please make sure to clear all purchases with the Director beforehand and save all receipts if you wish to be reimbursed for any purchases.

Ticket Sales & Marketing: We need your help!

Because we are in a new venue this year, and because that venue is down in Sherwood, we need help getting posters put up in local businesses in Sherwood and helping to spread the word. If you have ideas for how to market our show locally, please share them. Tickets are going to be done a bit differently this year. Every family will be given 5 tickets at a cost of $45.00 that will automatically be billed to your ledger in your family account. You can keep these tickets and use them for your family or you can sell them at a cost of $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids.

Cast Party: Our Cast Party is always so much fun! It will take place Thursday, January 2nd (1:00 – 4:00 p.m.) after we close our production run and before we come back for Winter Term, in Sousa – the Lounge at Village in Beaverton. It’s a chance for us to watch a recording of our production, sign each other’s shirts and/or scripts, receive a group photograph keepsake, and eat ICE CREAM! (Vegan and non-dairy options available!) We ask each cast member to bring a topping to share. This is also our opportunity to share what we thought was great about our experience together and what may need improvement in the future.

BLOOM Performance: Every year, we get the opportunity to perform a number from our show ONE MORE TIME at our Annual BLOOM Variety Show & Fundraiser! This event usually takes place in February or March and it’s a wonderful opportunity for our amazing young people to get a chance to shine! The cast of the fall musical is always asked to perform one of the larger numbers from the show, often as the closing number of the entire event. This year will be no different and it is expected that if you are agreeing to be a member of the cast of the Fall Musical Production, you are also agreeing to participate in the BLOOM Variety Show.
