If you love to spell, if you are in grade 1 through 8, if you are no older than 15 by February 1, you can participate! This year's Bee will be held at Village Home February 6, 1:00pm. Everyone is invited to come and watch!
All participants will get prizes. (Winner receives a full subscription, plus other prizes.)
The winner of the Village Home Spelling Bee will compete in the Portland Tribune Regional Bee in March. The winner of the Regional Bee will go to Washington DC to compete in the Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee in May! Village Home has had the honor of having TWO  National Spelling Bee Competitor, Shelley Clark and Connor Aberle. Let's keep the tradition of spelling excellence alive at Village Home.
Sign up for the Village Bee by January 30! Send an email to rosalyn.newhouse@villagehome.org or put a note in Rosalyn’s teacher folder at Village Home. Include student name, age, grade, your contact info.
All homeschoolers of age are welcome to participate.
$5 Registration Fee (waived for members).

This year Village Home will participate in the Great American SpellCheck, a program that makes fundraising easy, without the objections that many parents have to traditional fund-raisers.

The Great American SpellCheck is a fund-raiser that makes sure 100% of the money raised benefits Village Home directly, involves no students knocking on the doors of strangers, and is rooted in academics. 

Here’s how it works: Your child studies 50 spelling words from a grade-level list, and collects pledges from family and friends for every word that he or she spells correctly on the Great American SpellCheck Quiz. Your child improves his or her spelling skills and Village Home enjoys the financial benefits! 

Here is the Great American SpellCheck fund-raising timeline for 2012: 

• January 9 to January 13:

            Choose and Download a word list to study (or pick it up at the office)

            Download the Pledge Sheet (or pick it up at the office)

• January 9 to February 6:

            Study the word list

            Get pledges from family and friends (instructions come with the Pledge Sheet)

• February 6 to February 10:

            Come to the Village Home Spelling Bee on February 6! (optional)

            Turn in Pledge Sheets at the office

• February 13:

            SPELLCHECK! With Valentine Workshop and Ice Cream Social!

            1:00 Great American SpellCheck Quiz

            1:30-3:00 Valentine Workshop and Ice Cream Social ($5 materials fee)

            3:00 SpellCheck Quiz 100% Awards announced!

                    Scored Quizzes and Pledge Sheets returned with Collection Cards to give

                        your donors

• February 13 to March 5:

            Collect pledges

• March 6:

            Fundraising results announced in Village Home newsletter

How can you participate?

• Help your child choose a word list and practice the 50 Great American SpellCheck study words. (Your child can choose any grade-level list.)

• Indicate your level of support on the Great American SpellCheck Pledge Form. Also, ask family and friends to make pledges. 

• Ensure that your child returns the pledge form to the office by February 10.
