Um... Song

The Day Our Robot Died

Sung to the melody of "American Pie"
("...bye, bye, miss American Pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.")

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that robot used to make us smile.
And we knew if we had our chance
That we would make our robot dance
And, maybe, we'd be happy for a while.
But competition made us shiver
With every levee we'd delivered.
Bad news on our doorstep;
The robot couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When we heard that the robot died,
But something touched us deep inside
The day our robot died

Oh, my my, this here NXT died,
If we don't fix it pretty quickly
then our robot is fried
And them good old boys were eatin' ice cream and pie,
Cause, we really should have got an AI...
Yeah, we really should have got an AI...

We all thought it was a joke,
When you told us the robot broke,
If the instructions tell you so?
Do you believe our robot can roll,
Can this robot help us reach our goal,
Or will it spin us out of control?
Well, now is not the time to despair,
our robot can still be repaired
I know it could take all day,
But there's no other way,
There's no more time to make a new robot,
Competition's next week and we're tied up in knots,
Could this be someone's evil plot
To make our robot die?

Oh, my my, this here NXT died,
If we don't fix it pretty quickly
then our robot is fried
And them good old boys were eatin' ice cream and pie,
Cause, we really should have got an AI...
Yeah, we really should have got an AI...

Oh, my my, this here NXT died,
If we don't fix it pretty quickly
then our robot is fried
And them good old boys were eatin' ice cream and pie,
Cause, we really should have got an AI.

Peter W. is 14, and this is his 3rd year of Lego Robotics. He does most of the graphics and technical computer work for the team. He even designed this website. He designed the robot the team used last year and likes building the robots just as much as designing logos.

This is David's first year with FLL, but he started doing Lego Robotics non-competitively about 2 years ago. His favorite part of Lego Robotics is building the robots and working with the team. He is 14, and is very excited to be with FLL and can't wait until competition.

Teddy is 14, and this is the fourth year he has been involved with FLL. He enjoys working with the robot and is responsible for most of the text of this site. He is certain that Um… will go at least to the State competition this year.

Eli is 12 and this is his rookie year in FLL. He really wants to make it to the nationals this year. His favorite part of Lego Robotics is helping to build the robots.

Jevon is 13, and has been doing Lego Robotics for 3 years and this will be his 4th. He really wants to go to World Fest. His favorite part of FLL is probably the fact that you get to hang out with your friends all the time, and the fact that you get to build your own LEGO ROBOT!!!

Benjamin is 13 years old. He has enjoyed working with Legos his whole life and began an interest in Robotics a couple of years ago. This is his second year being on a Lego Robotics team. He loves to program and design the robots, and enjoys the challenge of the hard work.

Peter S. is 14 and this is the second time he has been a member of an FLL team. He enjoys both building the robots and working on the presentation. He hopes to go to the state competition for the second year in a row.
