We decided to do our project on the problem of water
shortage for the farmers of Oregon. After a year of research, we decided
on a few of the best solutions to present at competition. We contacted
the USDA (United States Departement of Agriculture) from the US and
the MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry) from New Zealand to determine
whether our solutions were valid. Both assured us that they were.
Below is a summary of a videoconference we had with
a class from Singapore.
--Our videoconference with the kids from Singapore was a great outreach opportunity for us because we not only got to learn about different cultures, but we also got to learn about what the climate was like in Singapore, how it was affected by global warming, and what they were doing about global warming. It was fun to explain about how Lego robotics worked and I hope they have more of an interest in it. We also learned about their school system, which is very different from ours. Their school day is longer than ours and they have different levels of academics. It was great to hear what they had to say about robotics and the questions they had. Especially since Singapore is only about the size of the Portland Metro area. It would be great to do another videoconference like that again.--
