Variable Frequency Drive

Variable frequency drives (VFD's) work by changing the frequency of the AC current thus changing the speed of the motor. If you put a VFD on an HVAC fan motor you can control the speed. The lower the speed, the less energy that is used, so if the heating or cooling load is only 50%, you could use 50% of the energy. The library should put these on all of the air handlers in the building.
