Our robot has a very interesting design, which we like to call a modular base. It has the NXT (the micro-computer) and motors on 1 module, and a separate base with wheels. The NXT module can easily snap in and out of the base. We have several different bases, each one doing 1-3 missions. The point of the bases is to minimize change-out time (many robots have a very inefficient change-out).
